This is probably one of our preferred Halloween crafts for kids. It's fast and easy, could be accomplished with a crowd if necessary, and also is a wonderful method to practice cutting and fine motor skills with smaller kids. Black construction paper

Scissors

Instructions:

Cut out a rectangle of paper roughly 3 X 3 1/2 inches. Fold over the short edge over almost an inch to fashion a pleat, and unfold it up again.

Turn the paper so the fold is horizontal, then cut the paper in seven even lines up to the pleat to make the 8 spider's legs. When working with smaller kids, sketch in the lines for them so they can repeat cutting on. With bigger kids, show them how to produce the initial cut in the middle, isolating the space beneath the fold into two halves. Then demonstrate to them the way to separate each half again to create quarters, and then the quarters to fashion eighths. There is certainly no need be overly precise.

Once the legs are cut place the spider around the child's finger and secure using sticky-tape or glue. Detach the spider once more and garnish - either with bits of paper or else with cartoon eyes. Place the spider back on the finger then twist the legs into shape or you could coil them around a pencil.

A few other options:

Dangle the spiders! Just cut a piece of black yarn (wool) and fasten inside the top of the spider using a small bit of sticky-tape.

Build littler versions of these spiders to adorn the tips of Halloween pencils.

When the body of the spider is completed but before adorning, place a black pipe cleaner round the head of the spider creating a furry look. Stick cartoon eyes on the top of the pipe cleaner.
